School Garden

25 June 2020 (by admin)

Children this week have been learning about plants in our school garden.

This week the children picked and ate some raspberries and broad beans in our very own school garden.
The children were really interested to see how the beans grow inside the pod. They smelled and tasted a variety of herbs and talked about the different flavours and textures. (Next time, they will be trying some stewed rhubarb!)
They spent a couple of mindful minutes taking notice of a stalk of lavender. First they looked closely at its appearance. Then they listened to the gently rustle of the leaves when they waved it next to their faces. They felt the different sensations of the prickly leaves and stalk and the softness of the flower buds. Then they rubbed and squeezed their lavender and noticed its smell.
The children were pleased to keep it on their desk as a reminder about their calm minutes at the beginning of the day and then took them home at the end of school to show their families.
